JAMIE'S ITALIAN - Number One George Square, City Centre - Due to open in early summer 2010, Jamie's Italian will be the latest venture by TV celebrity chef, Jamie Oliver. It will be housed in the grand former GPO building with great views over George Square. INGRAM WYND - 56-58 Ingram Street, Merchant City - This inviting restaurant opened its doors only just last year and manages successfully to blend traditional cuisine with some modern twists. This also applies to the cosy interior which combines exposed joists and brickwork with sumptuous soft furnishings, Victorian style! (£39) map

ELIA - 24 George Square, City Centre - Well-established local restauranteur, Georgios Leronmidis has brought the Greek dining experience to George Square and his new venture now occupies the ground floor of this grand city centre building. He has great enthusiasm for quality produce, attention to detail and traditional cooking methods. This is a welcome newcomer to the city centre. (£33) map

ESCA - 27 Chisholm Street, Merchant City - In contrast with Glasgow's legions of dark, cluttered old Italian restaurants, Esca is all clean lines, bright colours and funky light sculptures. The menu also reflects the trend for lighter, fresher and more eclectic dishes. This is now an established member of the Glasgow restaurant scene.  (£33) map

MALMAISON - 278 West George Street, City Centre - This original branch of the boutique hotel chain occupies one of Glasgow's architectural gems. From the warm and cosy bar area to the elegant black leather seats surrounding dimly lit tables, the traditional decor of this Glasgow institution oozes discreet glamour.
