Walking Programme...2012

GALLERY OF MODERN ART, DEAN VILLAGE & WATER OF LEITH, EDINBURGH - January - This walk starts in the extensive Sculpture Parkland that houses the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art where we will pass work by Henry Moore and Tracy Emin among others. We then head out the park through Dean Cemetery and Dean Village along the Water of Leith before returning to the Gallery. (£10)

KELVINGROVE WALK, GLASGOW - February - This is a walk along the River Kelvin from the Botanic Gardens pausing to look at the Kibble Palace and then along to Kelvingrove Park, a classical example of a Victorian park.  Its design and setting on the banks of the River Kelvin enhance and compliment the many magnificent buildings which surround it and the world renowned Art Gallery and Museum within it.  We will then head up to the Cloisters of Glasgow University with its wonderful views over the City. (£10)

ST. ANDREWS TOWN & GOWN WALK - March - The location of Scotland's oldest university and the home of golf also happens to be one of the most attractive medieval towns in the country. With its harbour, castle ruins, cathedral, fine beaches and historic buildings, it makes a superb place to explore for urban walkers. (£10)

ST. ANDREWS LINK & WEST SANDS - March - Stretch your legs on the fine sands made famous in the film 'Chariots of Fire' and then pass through Eden Estuary Nature Reserve before following a track leading between the famous golf courses. Throughout this walk you can enjoy views over the fine buildings of St. Andrews. (£10)

FORTH & CLYDE CANAL AT KILSYTH - April - will walk along the towpath on the north side of the canal, which runs wide and straight for some distance as it cuts through the Dullater Marsh SSSI, a particularly remote section of the canal. We will then cross the canal for the return walk, past the site of the Roman Antonine wall and through woodland with views over the Kelvin valley. (£10)

BALMAHA, LOCH LOMOND - May - Situated on the east shore of Loch Lomond at the foot of the Conic Hill, Balmaha has been for many years a popular tourist destination on the loch. For walkers it is a welcome stop on the West Highland Way. It's here we'll start our short section of Way along the shores of Loch Lomond to Milarrochy Bay. (£10)

LOCH TURRET - June - We will meet at the Famous Grouse Distillery before driving up to the dam with its wonderful views over Perthshire. We will then walk into the Highlands along the shores of Loch Turret before returning to the Distillery where those who would like can have a wee dram to toast the Jubilee. (£10)

All walks are low level, for all abilities and are approximately 2 hours long. Please wear good walking footwear and waterproof clothing. Also, we advise that you bring something to eat and drink.
